Students from a Community Projects class at Looking Glass’ Riverfront School & Career Center created a fundraiser to support the needs of pets of unhoused youth who access services at Looking Glass homeless youth programs.
Many pet owners struggle with the costs of food and supplies. The most in need are youth experiencing homelessness or those in temporary shelters. These youth need help with basic supplies, food, and resources for their furry companions.
The students raised almost $300 including donations of in-kind pet supplies. Wags! Dog Emporium matched every dollar raised and donated additional items for a total value of almost $900 in pet supplies gathered and donated to Looking Glass homeless youth programs for their pets.
In addition to requesting in-kind donations and funds, the students crafted pet-themed greeting cards and sold them for $1 each. The cards remain on sale at Wags! until they sell out.
“Community Projects is a class that focuses on local issues and ways that we can help, explained Riverfront teacher Marielle Hart. “We explore issues and solutions. This was our first fundraiser as a class. The aim is to get students involved in issues they care about and give back to the community.”
