Looking Glass Counseling Program is excited to have received funding from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) for a grant that will enhance our counseling service offerings by integrating a strengths-based, trauma-informed Youth Peer Support Program. This funding allows the Counseling Program to directly support those who have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. There are many socio-economic and cultural barriers for people of color to receive social services, including mental health treatment and substance abuse treatment.
Youth Development Division Funding
The Youth Development Division (YDD) awarded Looking Glass with a grant that provides funding for Reengagement programs within our Riverfront School and our Adjudicated Youth Services (AYS) School. Reengagement programs are focused on providing young individuals with support and access to education, with the goal of completing high school and finding a career path or post-secondary education.

Giving Tree Success: Best Year Ever?
Despite the pandemic and challenges surrounding this year’s annual Giving Tree program (or maybe because of them), Looking Glass programs received an amazing amount of support and donations - enough to ensure every youth who requested them a gift covering their needs and wishes. Covid-19 may have closed a lot of the businesses that would have normally hosted physical trees and ornaments but it didn’t close the hearts of our donors. In addition to the physical gifts picked up at Valley River Center, Oakway Centre, Umpqua Bank, McKenzie Commercial and other amazing business supporters, we received thousands of dollars in restricted cash donations and dozens of Amazon wish list items.
Free Bikes 4 Kidz Donates to Looking Glass
In October the local bike donation nonprofit Free Bikes 4 Kidz delivered 20 bikes to Looking Glass for various program use and direct youth client access. The bikes were delivered to Looking Glass residential programs as well as Riverfront’s Independent Living and Job Training Program clients and also the Looking Glass New Roads homeless youth program.
Virtual Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures Event Brings in Crucial Funds
The 8th annual Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures breakfast was forced to go virtual this year along with so many other typically in-person gatherings but still drove a lot of donations and community support as well as providing inspiring stories of the amazing work done by Looking Glass staff and volunteers.
Socktoberfest Sock Drive Yields Amazing Results Again
The 2nd annual Looking Glass Socktoberfest sock donation drive was another huge success thanks to amazing local business partners and their store customers as well as generous Amazon wish list buyers who shipped packages of new socks to our admin office. We received thousands of new and gently used socks for our New Roads homeless youth drop-in center!
GED Program Accepting Students
Looking Glass’ Riverfront School GED program offers a flexible, individualized and self-paced opportunity for young adults in Lane County to earn their General Educational Diploma (GED). Although school looks different due to COVID-19, the GED Program is excited to offer these classes and one-on-one learning opportunities to any 18-24-year-old in the area who wants to enroll. Students can join the program at any time due to its flexible timeline.
2020 Looking Glass Volunteers of the Year - Pam Gutierrez & Doris Hicks, Unity of the Valley Church
Unity of the Valley began an outreach to Looking Glass Residential Services in November 2019. They provide a weekly celebration service based on the outline of Youth of Unity (Y.O.U.) meetings. Prayer shawls are provided to all participants and some of their family members. Since the end of June, Unity of the Valley has also provided an evening Zoom Prayer time when the teens are able to connect one-on-one with a chaplain.
