Looking Glass’ Riverfront School GED program offers a flexible, individualized and self-paced opportunity for young adults in Lane County to earn their General Educational Diploma (GED). Although school looks different due to COVID-19, the GED Program is excited to offer these classes and one-on-one learning opportunities to any 18-24-year-old in the area who wants to enroll. Students can join the program at any time due to its flexible timeline.
“Any student who makes the commitment will graduate,” highlights Marielle Hart, Education Supervisor at Riverfront School. “We’ll work to get you there. Riverfront School is very proud that all students who were on track to graduate last year did, despite the challenges presented by COVID-19.”
The GED program can look different for each student depending on their schedule, workload and personal preferences. The program offers online instruction Monday thru Thursday twice a day via Google Classroom. These sessions are held with groups of other GED students, encouraging collaboration. The two meeting times a day offers students flexibility if they prefer morning versus afternoon classes.
“Earning your GED does take time and hard work, but it is a great option for students that did not have success in a regular high school setting,” shares Hart. “Earning a diploma or GED enables students to take the next steps into adulthood.” Riverfront is proud to offer this program to support any interested individuals in seeking their GED.
In addition to the online distance learning provided, Riverfront offers students the opportunity to meet in-person with teachers for tutoring or other supplemental education meetings (by appointment and with masks and distancing). This provides an opportunity to connect with peers and staff in a safe, socially distanced way while enjoying a snack, internet abilities and furthering understanding of GED material.
Some financial assistance is available and staff is more than happy to walk through interested students through that process.
Interested potential students should contact Shannon Grosse (Shannon.grosse@lookingglass.us) soon if they want to sign up for these GED courses. Phone inquiries can be made at Riverfront as well - 541-302-2554 (ext 303).
