Each quarter, the members of the Looking Glass Cultural Awareness and Equity Committee (CAEC) review nominations of staff members who have gone above and beyond their job requirements to promote cultural awareness and equity on the job. Nominations come mostly from staff peers. Then the committee randomly selects one nominee to win a $100 gift card.
This quarter, the nominations were as follows:
Sarai Barrera (she/her) Counseling
Joanna Castro (she/her) Counseling
Kayl Bourgault (they/them) AYS
Becca Pangborn (they/them) AYS
Alexandra Davies-Reyes (she/her) Counseling
Among these most recent committee nominations, the winner was Sarai Barrera. Nominating staff shared the following about Sarai:
"Sarai devotes a lot of her energy at Looking Glass to improving the services to the BIPOC population in Eugene. She is the outreach coordinator and attends different outreach events outside of the traditional work hours in order to fulfill her role. Sarai facilitates the BIPOC consult, is a great listener to the topics that are brought to that forum and is able to follow up and follow through with challenges that are brought to her attention. Sarai collects and shares resources that support clinicians in being more effective at working with the BIPOC clients. Sarai attended the Lion's Story training and participated in co-facilitating the annual Cultural Awareness training. I appreciate Sarai's openness, curiosity, humility and devotion to creating more equity and inclusion in the counseling program. Thank you Sarai."
