Training
Looking Glass Community Services requires the completion of new hire and annual training. Training may be role or program-specific and require the use of an online Learning Management System (provided) and in-person training and practice. Computers may be available upon request at our administration office.
The following trainings may be provided to support daily operations within programs:
Suicide Risk Assessment
o All residential and homeless youth services staff members must complete new hire and annual suicide risk assessment training. This will include safety planning, suicide risk evaluation, and prevention strategies.
Trauma-Informed Care
o Looking Glass supports a Trauma-Informed Care approach with all clients. Services are client first focused with an emphasis on harm reduction and unconditional positive regard.
Crisis Intervention Training/Crisis Prevention Institute
o All Looking Glass Community Services staff members working in residential, homeless youth services, education, and outpatient services are required to complete new hire and annual training in crisis de-escalation.
o Staff will practice crisis communication, evasion, physical disengagement, and self-control planning.
Regional Crisis Center staff will have additional training in manual restraint and seclusion.
Employees must meet requirements in both physical ability and professional conduct as evaluated by instructors.
Adult CPR/First Aid/AED
o Looking Glass employees may be required to be Adult CPR/First Aid and AED certified, including training on the use of Narcan/Naloxone.
Most Looking Glass programs have Narcan/Naloxone onsite. Staff may be required to administer this in an emergency.
o Certification is provided internally for required positions.
Staff may submit current certification for review.
External training must be certified in Oregon and include in-person evaluation of skills from an approved organization.
Mandatory Abuse Reporting
o All Looking Glass Community Services employees are required to be Mandatory Abuse Reporters.
o Staff will receive training upon new hire and per annual requirement.
o Mandatory Abuse Reporting is a 24/7 legal obligation for all employees and applies to professional and personal/community settings.
Sex-Trafficking Prevention
o Looking Glass employs a Sex-Trafficking and Prevention Specialist through our outpatient services. Staff may be required to receive training on the culture of human and sex-trafficking.
If additional training is needed or staff do not feel able to perform the skills necessary for their role, they are expected to communicate this need to their supervisor or program management team. Staff may require supplementary training in support of their professional development.
