After 5 incredibly successful years of experience with an October-long sock donation drive promotion (Socktoberfest), Looking Glass is hoping to yield similar results with a focused Bra and female-identified undergarment donation drive during the month of August - or “Braugust.”
“Often times it is the little things, like underwear, socks, and bras that are most impactful for our guests accessing services,” explains Homeless Youth Services Director Morgan Boozer. “Clean, basic needs items and under garments are the type of things many of us who have safe and stable housing take for granted. However, the ability to take a shower and put on clean underwear that fits and is in good shape has such a profound influence on the comfort and confidence of our guests, making all of the other barriers they face throughout the day just that much easier to navigate.”
While gently used bra’s will certainly be accepted, the hope is new items will be purchased via an Amazon wish list or dropped off at the Looking Glass admin office (1790 West 11th Ave, 2nd floor, Eugene) before August 31st. Only new underwear will be accepted. And socks are always needed as well (not just in October). View and shop our Amazon wish list here: https://a.co/4ROqB5R.
Looking Glass is also planning a shoe specific donation drive in September (dubbed “Shoetember”) in hopes of increasing the shoe inventory at New Roads and PEER homeless youth shelters, in advance of the 6th annual Socktoberfest sock drive in October.
