Looking Glass Riverfront School is pleased to announce that we will be offering a Summer Enrichment Program for 4j students. Students in grades 9 – 12 can sign up for one or more courses. There is no eligibility requirement to participate. Credit will be granted in Language Arts, science, social studies, health, applied and fine arts, PE, and electives. First Aid/CPR certification will be available as well as a limited number of paid summer work experience slots.
Each course is a half-day session for two weeks. Courses will be offered July 5 through August 12th. Work experiences will last up to six weeks.

Work Experience – Work Readiness
Dates: July 5 – August 12
Grades: 9 – 12
Time: Varies
Students will be placed in paid work experiences in a variety of settings and jobs in local non-profit organizations. Students will work between 20 – 32 hours per week, Monday – Thursday, and earn minimum wage. Classroom instruction in work readiness will be provided.
Mind and Body: Health/Yoga/Cooking
Session 1 Dates: July 5 – July 15

Students will explore physical, social emotional, and general health topics. Students will learn basic culinary skills while cooking and baking nutritious food using organic produce from the school garden. Students will obtain a Food Handler’s card.
“Note to Self” – Writing and Digital Photography
Dates: July 5 – July 15
Grades: 9 - 12
Time: 12:30 – 3:30pm
Based on Connor Franta’s “Note To Self” students will reflect on life through photography, prose, narratives and poetry. Students will create a bound book of their writing and art.
“The Three Sisters: Exploring an Iroquois Garden”
Dates: July 5 – July 15
Grades: 9 - 12
Time: 12:30 – 3:30pm
Using the Iroquois gardening method, students will gain an understanding of Native American culture including foods, customs and storytelling.
Gardening and Food Waste
Dates: July 19 – July 29
Grades: 9 - 12
Time: 9:00 – 12pm
Students will plant and harvest a school garden, study the effects of food waste on our environment, and explore ways to reduce our own food waste. Students will volunteer with Food for Lane County.
Genetics in the 21st Century: Destiny, Chance or Choice
Dates: July 19 – July 29
Grades: 9 - 12
Time: 12:30 – 3:30pm
Students will learn about genes, chromosomes, and heredity through the study of Drosophila. Students will explore their genetic pool with a personal look at their ancestry.
First Aid/CPR - Certification

Vex Robotics and Coding Basics

Students will learn coding basics and earn certification in Express Fundamentals on Code.org. Students will build a variety of robots using Vex Robotic kits culminating in a Robot Showdown.
Nature Around Us - Art Class
Dates: August 2 – August 12
Grades: 9 – 12

Students will use sensory experiences to create art projects and written essays.
