The Inaugural "Hike for Hope" event, a group hike fundraiser up Mount Pisgah held Saturday, August 11th, was a resounding success in all aspects. The $4,000 fundraising goal was exceeded by $135 and a group of generous supporters of about 50 people joined together to follow hike leader and former Looking Glass client and employee, Nick "the trainer dude" Hammond (now a successful business owner of a personal training company in Springfield).

Nick's speech, given prior to the outset of the hike, touched on themes of overcoming adversity, tackling life's challenges and rejoicing in redemption - with the help of Looking Glass programs. Looking Glass would like to thank Nick for his leadership of this event and for sharing his personal story of help, hope and healing which embodies what Looking Glass hopes to provide for its clients.

This event would not have been possible without the help of all of the generous donors and supporters as well as event sponsors including Nonstop Wellness, Oregon Community Credit Union and Santa Clara Chiropractic Center. Additional support was provided by US Bank, Hearing Associates and also Run Hub NW. Wonderful door prizes were provided for participants from companies including REI, Oregon Paddle Sports, Eugene Running Company, Back Country Gear and Oakway Fitness.

Water was provided at the event by McKenzie Mist. A special thank you also goes to the staff of Mount Pisgah and Friends of Buford Park for helping us to plan and put on this great event. Looking Glass also wishes to thank the Looking Glass staff of volunteers who helped make sure the event went smoothly. We look forward to doing it again soon!

The funds generated by Saturday's hike will help support Looking Glass's Runaway & Homeless Youth programs in funding transitional living for formerly homeless Lane County girls.
